Prayer Shushed on Supreme Court Steps

Charlie Butts – OneNewsNow – 7/19/2010 – After a group of students praying on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court building was confronted by police and told what they were doing was illegal, the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) sent a letter to officials of the high court.

Wickenburg Christian Academy teacher Maureen Rigo of Arizona had taken a group of students to tour the complex, and ADF attorney Nate Kellum tells OneNewsNow they had just completed a May 5 visit to the Supreme Court and were on the steps outside.

“They decided to mark the occasion a police officer for the Supreme Court building who told them that what they were doing was violating a federal statute and said that they had to take their prayer elsewhere.” According to an ADF press release, the prayer was stopped base on a statute that bars parades and processions on Supreme Court grounds — even though Rigo was speaking in… Read More

Nearly 70 Members of Congress Go to Court to Defend The National Day of Prayer
Tuesday, July 13, 2010
By Nick Dean

People from across the nation took part in the 2010 National Day of Prayer event in the caucus room of the Cannon House Office building, which included prayers for all branches of government. (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr) (CNSNews.com) — Sixty-three (63) members of the House and four senators, Republicans and Democrats, have weighed in on the legal case to defend the constitutionality of the National Day of Prayer.

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) filed an amicus (friend of the court) brief Thursday on behalf of the congressmen, members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, in the case of Freedom From Religion Foundation v. Obama, in which a Wisconsin federal district court declared unconstitutional the statute directing the president to declare the annual observance of the National Day of Prayer.

On April 15, U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb in Madison, Wis., ruled in favor of the Freedom… Read More

Constitution OKs Jesus’ name, says CLA

Allie Martin – OneNewsNow – 7/13/2010 – An attorney with the Christian Legal Association (CLA) reports that a North Carolina pastor who was denied the right to pray in Jesus’ name at the state House may pursue legal action against the state.

Last month, Dr. Ronnie Baity, a Baptist pastor in Winston-Salem, was asked to give the opening prayers during the first week of the legislative session. But officials balked when they read his prayer and asked him to consider not praying in the name of Jesus. Dr. Baity, who refused to remove references to Jesus in his prayer, then offered the beginning prayer during the first session, but was told that he would not be needed for the rest of the week. David Gibbs III, an attorney with the CLA, tells OneNewsNow that a letter requesting an apology has been sent to state officials.

Court paves way for enmity toward Christians

Allie Martin – OneNewsNow - An official with Focus on the Family says Christians — in light of a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling — must be prepared to have their faith challenged at the high school and college levels.

Last week the high court upheld the right of a public university to enforce an antidiscrimination policy against a student group affiliated with the Christian Legal Society. Justices said it was wrong for the Christian student group at the University of California’s Hastings College of the Law to have members sign a statement of faith in order to become members. Candi Cushman with Focus on the Family says the ruling should be a wake-up call to every Christian student in a public university and high school. Read Full Story Here

Religious Hypocrasy in Action…Pelosi Says She Has a Duty to Pursue Policies in Keeping With The Values of Jesus, ‘The Word Made Flesh’

CNSNews.com – By Nicholas Ballasy- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says she believes she must pursue public policies “in keeping with the values” of Jesus Christ, ”The Word made Flesh.”

Pelosi, a Catholic who favors legalized abortion, voted against the ban on partial-birth abortion that was enacted into law in 2003.

At a May 6 Catholic Community Conference on Capitol Hill, the speaker said: “They ask me all the time, ‘What is your favorite this? What is your favorite that? What is your favorite that?’ And one time, ‘What is your favorite word?’ And I said, ‘My favorite word? That is really easy. My favorite word is the Word, is the Word. And that is everything. It says it all for us. And you know the biblical reference, you know the Gospel reference of the Word.” View Video & Read Full Story

In God We Trust…right?

OneNewsNow.com – Charlie Butts – Congress is being asked to go on record and show support for the national motto. Virginia Congressman Randy Forbes (R) has introduced H.Con.Res.274 to gain support for “In God We Trust.” The American Family Association has issued an action alert, showing its support for the motion that calls for federal buildings, school facilities and other public places to display and affirm the national motto.

Congressman Forbes notes that about 78 percent of Americans believe in God, “and yet we have a small handful of anti-faith people who want to stop you and I from being able to talk like that, our military in the military.” Read Full Story

Arizona’s CAP Files Legal Brief Support National Day of Prayer

CAP JOINS WITH ALLIANCE OF TOP STATE AND NATIONAL POLICY LEADERS DEMANDING REVERSAL OF REVISIONIST OPINION

Today, Center for Arizona Policy signed onto an amicus brief filed by Liberty Institute in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in support of the National Day of Prayer in Freedom from Religion Foundation v. Obama.

On April 15, U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb ruled the federal government’s observation of prayer is unconstitutional, despite numerous rulings from the U.S. Supreme Court that protect long-standing traditions of religious invocations.

Americans shouldn’t be forced to abandon their religious heritage simply to appease a political agenda. Judge Crabb’s ruling striking down the National Day of Prayer contradicts what our Constitution’s authors believed about the importance of religion to our society. Read Full Story

Obama condemned for invoking race and religion in border dispute

Chad Groening – OneNewsNow – A Christian law firm will assist Arizona in its defense against the Obama Justice Department’s lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of The Grand Canyon State’s immigration enforcement statute.

The lawsuit argues that Arizona’s new measure, which requires state and local police to question and possibly arrest illegal aliens during the enforcement of other laws, like traffic stops, usurps federal authority.

President Barack Obama has called the state law “misguided,” but Jordan Sekulow, director of international operations with the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), contends that Obama’s grievance is what is misguided. Read Full Story

School Removes “Year of Our Lord” Reference from diplomas

By Todd Starnes-Fox News-6/24/2010 – Seniors at a New Haven, Conn., high school will not be graduating “in the year of our Lord” this year – or any future years, according to the superintendent of schools.

The school district has removed the traditional phrase from high school diplomas after someone complained.

“It’s a religious thing,” Superintendent Reginald Mayo told the New Haven Register. “I’m surprised it took this long for someone to notice it. We certainly don’t want to offend anyone.”

Last year, former alderwoman Ina Silverman filed a complaint about “in the year of our Lord” when her daughter was a student at Wilbur Cross High School. According to the newspaper, Silverman took her concerns to the mayor, who then asked the superintendent to remove the words.

Mayo told the newspaper it was a small change – but it was a necessary change. The American Humanist Association heralded the decision. Read More

Atheists invited to WH interfaith meeting

Bill Bumpas – OneNewsNow – Student atheist leaders are bragging that they were recently invited to the White House to participate in a meeting on interfaith service projects on college campuses.

The Secular Student Alliance boastfully proclaimed on its website that a couple of its leaders attended the June 7 meeting sponsored by the Obama administration’s Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Bishop Harry Jackson with the Fellowship of International Churches tells OneNewsNow he believes the White House is trying to expand the tent of faith to include atheists and non-religious people as a way to discredit Bible-believing evangelicals. Read Full Story

Major Victory for Truth & US Constitution

April Castro – Associated Press writer – 5/22/2010 12:45:00 PM -Texas schoolchildren will be required to learn that the words “separation of church and state” aren’t in the Constitution and evaluate whether the United Nations undermines U.S. sovereignty under new social studies curriculum.

In final votes late Friday, conservatives on the State Board of Education strengthened requirements on teaching the Judeo-Christian influences of the nation’s Founding Fathers and required that the U.S. government be referred to as a “constitutional republic” rather than “democratic.” (See earlier story)

The board approved the new standards with two 9-5 votes along party lines after months of ideological haggling and debate that drew attention beyond Texas.

The guidelines will be used to teach some 4.8 million students for the next 10 years. They also will be used by textbook publishers who often develop materials for other states based on those approved in Texas, though Texas teachers ave latitude in deciding how to teach the material.

Obama, Israel and the Genesis Prediction

Dennis Prager - Most observers, right or left, pro-Israel or anti-Israel, would agree that Israeli-American relations are the worst they have been in memory. Among the many indications is that only 9 percent of Jewish Israelis think President Barack Obama’s administration is more pro-Israel than pro-Palestinian, according to a Smith Research poll taken during the last week of March on behalf of The Jerusalem Post. Given how much Israelis love and admire (and emigrate to) America, this level of mistrust is all the more remarkable.

Commentators on the left, of course, blame Israel. For them, this is a no-brainer; blaming Israel is as natural as breathing. One just does it. Furthermore, Israel is headed by a conservative prime minister, and America is presided over by the most pro-left president in its history.

Meanwhile, commentators on the right are virtually unanimous in supporting Israel. This is not simply an anti-Obama, pro-conservative-Netanyahu reflex, however. It stems from a variety of reasons:

First, Israel is our staunchest ally. Among other things, Israel votes with us in the United Nations more often than any other country, … Read More

I Believe in the Resurrection of America

Chuck Norris - What’s so disheartening about America’s present political environment is that those in Washington are truly convinced that more and bigger government is America’s primary solution for recovery, future growth and security. President Barack Obama even declared early in his presidency that “only government” is our savior.

Our Founders had a far better solution than only government. And it’s probably a good time, during Christendom’s Holy Week and with heightened frustrations toward government across the country, to recall that solution and that, though our Founders initiated our government, they didn’t expect it to usher in any form of Utopia.

As proud as they were of their newfound republic, our Founders’ trust and hope was not in government, but in God. For what? For most of the things that people today often look to government to provide: life, liberty, happiness, provision, salvation, decency, civility, morality, honesty, restraint, equity of power and future hope, to name a few. Tragically, in modern times, government has usurped God’s role in our republic and Americans’ lives.

But if our government and even public schools won’t remind Americans of our godly… Read More

Where Do Jews and Christians on the Left Get Their Values?

Dennis Prager -Iran and tens of millions of Islamic supporters outside of Iran, and Palestinian society is saturated with the most virulent Jew-hatred since the Nazis. Yet while today’s Jew- and Israel-haters call the Left home, Jews on the Left continue to be proud members of the Left. Such is the power of Leftism, the most dynamic religion in the world for the last 150 years.

Many Americans find it difficult to understand why Jews on the Left — including many who would call themselves “liberal” rather than “Left” — continued to enthusiastically support President Obama after the revelations about the anti-Israel and anti-Jewish views of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the religious mentor and close friend of Obama. This confusion is all the greater now that Obama has humiliated the prime minister of Israel and created the most tense moment in American-Israel relations in memory.

Likewise, many Americans wonder how Democratic congressmen who claim to be faithful Catholics and are pro-life could vote for the health care bill that allows for federal funding of abortions — after opposing it… Read More

The Divine Draft™…

Knealing_soldierAlright America, the time has come for all God revering Americans to report for duty…Your country needs you, your heart, mind and soul to stand in the gap for the greatest nation on earth. A nation that was discovered by a missionary named Christopher Columbus who received a divine vision from God for this new land. A nation that would be built on Biblical Truth and Principles, as a shining light on the hill and serve as a witness to the world

Friends, we are at a critical crossroads here and we need all hands on deck to preserve what we’ve still got, try to get back what we’ve lost and  prepare ourselves to fight for what is in jeopardy, Freedom. Perhaps a more appropriate analogy is that we are in the crosshairs of an enemy that is Anti-American, Anti-Family and ultimately Anti-God. Call it whatever you like but the facts are the facts.

For decades now the government has been slowly and systematically dismantling America’s Christian, Biblically Framed Heritage & Foundations in numerous ways and that we continue… Read More
